BUTTERFLY COUNT SHEET - Alphabetized A-Z

Start a butterfly count and share your results with the North American Butterfly Association! For ideas on where to start, join NABA and read my article in the spring 2026 issue of NABA's American Butterflies magazine, "How to Start Your First NABA Butterfly Count."

The butterfly count sheet below is specific to the Texas Gulf Coast, but it could adapted for use in other regions. For those in other regions, I recommend creating an alphabetized count list by copying and pasting the common names of butterflies from NABA’s list into an Excel or Google Sheets spreadsheet. Next, apply the “alphabetize” function to the butterfly names column and paste the newly alphabetized common names onto a single page with a large empty column beside them to make counting easy the day of the event.
